The Green Bay Packers got their asses handed to them by the New Orleans Saints, 38-3, Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville. What? Did you all want me to ease into it? Did you want me say it a bit more nicely? Nope. Hitting you all over the head, just like the Saints did the Packers.
Green Bay’s head coach Matt LaFleur called the loss “embarrassing.” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, “It’s just one game, there’s 16 more.” They are both correct.
This dog walking was embarrassing. Not because I got my Quick TO:SS prediction incorrect, but because I got my expectations of the Packers showing up, ready to play on gameday, crushed.
You have to give New Orleans credit, they were the only team ready to play Sunday. They absolutely rag dolled the Packers at the line of scrimmage. It felt as if Green Bay just accepted it. Lifeless and listless. It was difficult to see.
In the end, this was just the first of 17 games. There’s a lot of football to be played. Which means there are many opportunities for the Packers to improve.
If Green Bay is going to achieve their goals this season, they’ll need to show up. Seize opportunities. This team is far too talented and well coached for performances like we saw Sunday.
The Packers will look to rebound, next Monday night, against the Detroit Lions. Let’s see if they show up at home, at Lambeau.
