NFL Week 8: Packers versus Jaguars: The Fallout

The Green Bay Packers rolled into Jacksonville on the high of a thrilling victory over the Houston Texans. So going up against a 2-5 Jaguars squad has all the makings of a trap game. Escaping with 30-27 victory would appear Green Bay barely escaped the trap, but that would be without context.

The game became a war of attrition between the two teams. Both Green Bay and Jacksonville saw their fair share of injuries to key players, none more notable than Packers quarterback Jordan Love who injured his groin on a pass in the first quarter. He would not return after leaving in the third quarter. Enter: Malik Willis.

It was a mixed bag for Willis. He made some beautiful throws, but the 4th quarter seemed to be when the offense stalled out a bit. Multiple drives went nowhere and allowed the Jags to hang around. (Yโ€™all know how I feel about letting teams hang around.) Jacksonville was able to take advantage and tie the game at 27 late in the fourth.

Ultimately, Green Bay made the necessary plays, including a 51-yard reception from Willis to Jayden Reed, to get into position to win. And win they did. For the second straight week, Brandon McManus knocks through a walk-off field goal to seal victory.

Now, the fallout (see what I did there) truly begins. With a date against the NFC North leading Detroit Lions up next, Will Jordan Love (groin) be available? Will safety Evan Williams be available? How about Quay Walker? (Although rookie Edgerrin Cooper had a fantastic game in his absence.) Packers will need all healthy hands on deck to not fall into an 0-2 hole within the division.
